LOL this is hilarious!
I think that as time progresses the answer to this question will alter. I think that if we were to ask some of our grandparents and great grandparents this exact same question that about 95% of them would say that owning their own home would be considered as a valid answer. But with our generation, you could pose the same question and get a completely different answer. Personally I think that owning your own home is definitely a part of the american dream. I believe that the american dream not only consists of owning your own home but a plethora of other things….that might I add, you own. To be of status and be prestigious is the basis of this so-called dream, but how do you obtain status and prestige. Well you generally do so by acquiring some means of wealth. The way that you obtain this wealth is through ownership. Of course this is just all my opinion, but I think that I make a valid argument here when I say that ownership of a home is definitely still a part of the american dream. But I realize that today a lot of my peers don’t feel the same way I do…. I know that me and Mariah discusses all the time; how excited we will be when we decide to purchase our first homes.
Without a doubt times are changing and it is evident that the answer to this question will forever change as well. With so many technological (just one example) advances change is bound to happen, and thats not even just pertaining to this question but just life in general. Being a young african american male I know that my ancestors felt that owning land was substantially important as well as education. Those are two things that the black community have embraced for centuries. So what exactly is this dream? What does it really consist of? Who has it? How do they know they have it? What do you think? (To be continued…….)
